How can we help?

Find answers to common questions about My Vinyl+

Getting Started

My Vinyl+ is the best way to manage your record collection on iPhone and iPad. It connects to Discogs (the world's largest music database) so you can browse your vinyl, add new records, track what you want to buy, and discover new music.

When you open the app for the first time, tap "Log In with Discogs". You'll be taken to the Discogs website to sign in. Once you approve the connection, you'll be brought back to the app with your collection ready to browse.

Absolutely! We never see or store your Discogs password. The app connects securely through Discogs' official login system. Any changes you make in the app are saved directly to your Discogs account.

The app has several main sections:

  • Discover – Find new records and get recommendations
  • Collection – Browse all the records you own
  • Wantlist – Keep track of records you want to buy
  • Marketplace – See records for sale
  • Search – Find any record in the Discogs database

Collection

There are a few easy ways:

  1. Search: Go to Search, find the record you want, tap on it, then tap "Add to Collection"
  2. Scan the barcode: Tap the camera icon in Search, point your phone at the barcode on your record, and add it when it appears

Tap on the record in your Collection to open it. Scroll down and tap "Remove from Collection". You'll be asked to confirm before it's removed. This also removes it from your Discogs account.

Go to your Collection and tap the chart icon at the top. This opens your Dashboard where you can see the total value of your collection, how many records you have, and more interesting stats.

Yes! In your Collection, tap the sort button to arrange your records by date added, artist name, album title, year released, and more.

When you first open the app or add new records, it downloads the latest info from Discogs. This is normal and your collection works fine while it's syncing.

In your Collection, tap the view button in the toolbar to switch between seeing your records as album covers (grid) or as a detailed list.

Wantlist

The Wantlist is your wishlist of records you'd like to buy. It stays in sync with your Discogs account, so any changes you make show up everywhere.

Find a record using Search, tap on it to see the details, then tap "Add to Wantlist".

Open the record from your Wantlist and tap "Remove from Wantlist". You can also swipe left on any record in the list and tap Delete.

Yes! Tap on any record in your Wantlist to see how many copies are for sale on Discogs and what prices they're going for.

Open the record from your Wantlist and tap "Add to Collection". You can then remove it from your Wantlist if you want (it doesn't happen automatically).

Search & Scanning

Go to the Search tab and type an artist name, album title, or catalog number. Results show up as you type. Tap any result to see full details and add it to your collection or wantlist.

In the Search tab, tap the camera icon. Point your phone at the barcode on your record (usually on the back or on the shrink wrap). When the app recognizes it, you'll see matching records to choose from.

Yes! Tap the Shazam icon in Search, play the song you want to identify, and the app will recognize it. You can then search for vinyl versions of that song.

Discogs has millions of records, but sometimes a specific version isn't listed. Try searching by the catalog number (printed on the label or spine) or look at the numbers etched into the vinyl near the label. You can also tap "View Other Versions" to see all pressings of an album.

Folders

Folders help you organize your collection however you like. You could create folders like "Jazz", "To Listen", "Favorites", or anything else. Records can be in multiple folders at once.

Go to Settings > Collection and find the Folders option. Tap the "+" button and give your folder a name. It will show up both in the app and on Discogs.

Open any record from your Collection, scroll to find the Folders section, and pick which folders you want it in. You can also press and hold on a record in the list for a quick shortcut.

In your Collection, tap the folder or filter icon and pick the folder you want to see. Tap "All" when you want to see your full collection again.

Yes. Go to Settings > Collection > Folders, swipe left on the folder, and tap Delete. Don't worry – your records won't be deleted, they'll just be removed from that folder.

Sync & Data

My Vinyl+ stays connected to your Discogs account. When you add or remove records in the app, those changes are saved to Discogs right away. The app also checks for any changes you made on the Discogs website.

Go to Settings > Collection > Memory Management. There you can clear different types of stored data. This is helpful if something seems out of date or isn't displaying correctly.

No! Your actual collection is stored safely on Discogs. Clearing the app's data just removes the temporary copy on your phone. Everything will download again when you open the app.

Yes! Go to Settings > Collection > Export Data (Platinum feature). You can save your collection or wantlist as a file that opens in spreadsheet apps like Excel or Numbers.

Try these steps:

  1. Pull down on the Collection screen to refresh
  2. Go to Settings > Collection > Memory Management and clear the stored data
  3. Check that you're connected to the internet
  4. Try logging out and back in

Marketplace

The Marketplace shows records for sale on Discogs from sellers around the world. You can browse listings, see prices, and find copies of records you want.

You can browse and view listings in the app. When you're ready to buy, you'll be taken to the Discogs website to complete your purchase securely.

Open any record and scroll down to see the Marketplace section. You'll see how many copies are for sale and the price range. Tap to see all the listings with seller ratings and shipping info.

The value is based on what records actually sell for on Discogs. The app uses the middle price from recent sales to estimate what your collection is worth.

Platinum Subscription

Platinum is the premium version of My Vinyl+ with extra features. It also helps support the continued development of the app.

Platinum includes:

  • Advanced search filters
  • Custom theme colors
  • Hide tabs you don't use
  • Export your collection to a spreadsheet

Yes! New users get 2 weeks free to try all Platinum features before deciding if they want to subscribe.

In the app, go to Settings and tap "Subscribe to Platinum". You can choose monthly or yearly billing. Payment is handled securely through the App Store.

Subscriptions are managed through Apple. Go to your iPhone's Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions > My Vinyl+ and tap Cancel. You'll keep Platinum until the end of your current billing period.

Go to Settings and tap "Restore Purchases". Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you used when you first subscribed.

Go to Settings and look for "Redeem Code" in the subscription section. Enter your code there to activate Platinum.

Appearance

Yes! Go to Settings > Appearance > Theme Color (Platinum feature). Pick any color you like and it'll be used throughout the app.

Go to Settings > Appearance > App Icon. There are lots of designs to choose from – classic looks, modern styles, and special editions.

Yes! Go to Settings > Appearance > Tab Bar (Platinum feature). Turn off any tabs you don't need. You can always turn them back on later.

Go to Settings > Appearance > Text Size and use the slider to adjust. This is separate from your phone's text size setting.

Yes! The app automatically matches your phone's setting. If your iPhone is in Dark Mode, the app will be too.

Widgets

My Vinyl+ has several widgets for your home screen:

  • Random Record – Shows a random album from your collection
  • Collection Value – Shows how much your collection is worth
  • Collection Counter – Shows how many records you own
  • Last Added – Shows the record you added most recently

Press and hold on your home screen until the apps wiggle. Tap the "+" button in the corner, search for "My Vinyl+", pick a widget size, and tap "Add Widget".

Widgets don't update instantly – your iPhone decides when to refresh them to save battery. Opening the app usually triggers an update. If it's really stuck, try removing the widget and adding it again.

Troubleshooting

Try these steps:

  1. Close the app completely and reopen it
  2. Go to Settings > Collection > Memory Management and clear the stored data
  3. Make sure you have a good internet connection
  4. Restart your phone
  5. Check for app updates in the App Store

First, check your internet connection. If you're online, try:

  1. Pull down on the Collection screen to refresh
  2. Clear the stored data in Settings > Collection > Memory Management
  3. Log out and log back in
  4. Check if Discogs.com is working (sometimes it goes down for maintenance)

Make sure the app has permission to use your camera (check in your iPhone's Settings app under My Vinyl+). Also try:

  • Better lighting – the camera needs to see the barcode clearly
  • Hold your phone about 6-12 inches from the barcode
  • Keep your phone steady
  • If a barcode won't scan, you can type the number into the search bar instead

Go to Settings > Help & Support > Send Feedback. Tell us what's happening – the more detail, the better! Screenshots are really helpful too. We read every message.

Go to Settings > Accounts, swipe left on your account, and tap Log Out. This removes your data from the app but doesn't affect your Discogs account. You can log back in anytime.

Unfortunately, when you remove a record it's also removed from Discogs immediately. You'll need to find the record again using Search and add it back.

If you have analytics enabled, crash reports are sent automatically. When contacting us, it helps to know:

  • What you were doing when it crashed
  • Which iPhone model you have
  • Which version of the app you're using (shown in Settings > Help & Support > About)
  • Whether it happens every time or just sometimes
